Pierce Quantum Pumper - Kern County
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Kern County Quantum pumper, Engine No 41 which is an exact replica of the "In Use" fire truck based at the Virginia Avenue fire station in Bakersfield, California
As models go, the Quantum is about as realistic as you can get in 1:50th scale. Every aspect of the model has an imaculate finish and exceptional level of detail.
The top hose crosslay doors, which have an intricate diamond plate texture and high chromed finish open up to reveal the authentic looking hoses all aligned in their storage compartments. The side storage door panels have intricate handles and textured roller shutter finish but do not open on the Quantum models.
The fold down ladder holder has two clips to connect the accurate and fully functional three stage extending step ladder and once connected, the holder folds up into the travel position with the ladder stored above the roof.
There are two hose reels mounted above the control panels complete with accurately modelled hose nozzles along with two additional hose storage compartments with lift up cover. A separate deck gun is supplied in the box and needs fitting above the pump panel housing and can be rotated through 360 degrees. Every flat surface of the model has been finished with diamond plate panels and the textured pattern is very realistic.
The pump panel has been accurately reproduced with all the dials, controls and outlets visible. Considering the scale, it is amazing that so much detail can be captured in such a small area and yet everything is there.
The main cab is hinged and can be tilted forward to reveal the fully reproduced diesel engine beneath, complete with battery compartments and exhaust pipe all visible. A small bracket can be lifted up to hold the cab in the raised position.

Even the electrical cabled have been reproduced which demonstrates the commitment and attention to detail that makes TWH Collectibles a world leader in model development. |
The front wheels have authentic road tread tyres and working steering with chromed wheel hubs. |
The rear of the model has clear plastic light clusters with coloured lenses and accurate placement of the large grab handles. The rear hose bay cover is made from fabric to give an incredible feel of realism and is a great touch on the model.
The roof of the cab has three strip light bars, two which are side mounted and the main front mounted bar which extends across the width of the cab, complete with electrical wire detailing. The air conditioning unit is also mounted on the roof with twin fans. The cab windows are all made from clear plastic with intricate painting of the rubber window seals which cetainly adds to the level of realism. The chromed rear view mirrors, which need fitting to the model, have a reflective surface and photo etched metal windscreen wipers have been fitted to the front windscreen.
The cab interior is fully detailed with the driver's compartment enclosed in a wrap around dashboard with printed dials, switches and display screen of the Command Zone computer system, all of which are visible through the large front window. The officers area has a detailed seat, complete with seat belts and the rear compartment has provision for a three man crew.
The front bumper is highly chromed with diamond textured surface and three section front grill frame with photo etched grill panel. The front lights are enclosed in chrome enclosures with plastic lenses and painted indicator lamps to finish off the front detailing.
The TAK-4 suspension system has been accurately modelled on the model and is fully visible by turning the model over. |
|
The rear axle has a drive shaft running the length of the chassis to the Allison transmission system. Other details found underneath the model include the air tanks for the suspension along with the fuel tank and silver finished exhaust . |
This is an amazing model replica and demonstrates once again that TWH Collectibles produce museum quality replicas with imaculate detail levels throughout. This extends to the packaging which consists of a printed outer cardboard box with inner, two piece polystyrene carton to keep the model well protected during shipping. The fold out printed card provides some great details of the actual full sized vehicle that the model is based upon and this adds to the value of the model.
