Pierce Quantum Pumper - County of Henrico
Presented here is the 1:50th scale County of Henrico Quantum pumper, Engine No 10. As with the other Quantum pumper models from THW, the attention to the finest detail is fabulous and the model is an accurate replica of the full sized engine located at Station 10.
The fold down ladder rack has two clips to connect the accurate and fully functional three stage extending step ladder and single stage roof ladder and once connected, the holder folds up into the travel position with the ladders securely stored above the roof.
The engine detailing has been very nicely modelled with the prominent silver engine block and exhaust piping along with the electrical cabling from the battery compartment and service lines travelling along the chassis all visible beneath the tilting cab which is kept in the raised position by the two swing up bars. Flexible rubber mud guards are fitted to the cab frame with authentic printed Pierce logos.
The large pump panel has been authentically reproduced and is an exact replica of the full sized panel from the various printed guages, dials and knobs down to the large water intake. Above the pump housing is a storage area for the flat stored hoses which have been simulated from moulded resin giving an authentic look. A separate water gun is supplied in the box and needs fitting above the pump panel housing and can be rotated through 360 degrees. Considering the scale, it is amazing that so much detail can be captured in such a small area and yet everything is there.
Photo etched panels with tiny grill features have been used for the ventilation of the main pump housing and diamond plate textured panels have been added throughout the pump area. The large area on the top of the rear body has several compartments where more flat hoses are positioned, complete with moulded nozzles which are covered over with a real fabric material cover, complete with tiny stitching.
The roof of the cab has a large, clear and red sectioned plastic lighting strip bar extending across the width of the cab with a fully position-able floodlight which features several telescoping sections with a rotating and tilting head, complete with four painted lenses and flexible electrical wiring. The air conditioning housing is mounted just behind this, complete with painted fan detailing while four aerial antennas are fitted to the roof.
The cab windows are all made from clear plastic with intricate painting of the rubber window seals which cetainly adds to the level of realism. The chromed rear view mirrors which need fitting to the model, have a reflective surface while large chromed housings with red lenses are fitted to the front of the cab above the intricate photo-etched grill which prominently houses the Pierce logo.
The TAK-4 suspension system has been accurately modelled on the model and is fully visible by turning the model over. The front and rear wheels have authentic road tread tyres with working steering of the front axle with chromed wheel hubs. The rear axle has a drive shaft running the length of the chassis to the Allison transmission system with air tanks for the suspension and fuel tank fitted to the chassis.
The packaging has also been very nicely done with a printed cardboard box containing the two section polystyrene carton within that keeps the model secure during shipping. There is a printed leaflet which gives details on fitting the mirrors, extension ladder and stang onto the model while a small printed booklet gives details of the Henrico County Fire Department.
The addition of a reproduced Pierce product brochure is a really nice touch which is full of pictures and information on the Pierce line of fire and rescue equipment. This printed material adds a little extra value and rounds off another exceptional model release.
