The Oshkosh Striker 3000 ARFF - U.S.A.F Version
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Oshkosh Striker 3000 ARFF model which is based on the full sized vehicle in service with the U.S Air Force.
The front of the model has a bumper mounted turret with the ability to rotate the spray head and it is complete with flexible hoses. The roof mounted turret also has the ability to be fully positioned as required and the FLIR (forward looking infra red) is mounted to the side of the roof in front of the wanring beacons.
The roof of the model has photo etched metal plates with an intricate pattern etched into them. The four small black lights and the two long railing sections are separate in the box and require fixing to the model. The lights do not fit tightly so a touch af glue is recommended to hold them in place.
The photo etched steps below the cab can be folded into the travel position and the cab interior has been fully modelled with authentic looking seats, complete with safety belts, fully reproduced control station with controls and monitor screens all visible through the clear glazed windows. Photo etched windscreen wipers are added to the front screen and the rear view and front view mirrors are provided in the box and need connecting to the model. The mirrors are not a tight fit so a little glue may be required to keep the mirrors in place.
The central compartment opens to reveal an array of switches and guages which are actually printed with dials and this is an amazing level of realism on such a small component. Tiny safety and warning labels have also been printed on the body above the compartment.
The rear engine housing on the U.S Air Force version has an extra component above the etched cooling grills and opening roll up door in front of the exhaust pipe. The rear of the model also has a centrally mounted warning beacon which is a slightly different configuration to the other vesions.
The two side panels at the rear of the model can be opened to reveal the engine compartment, where the centrally mounted engine block is just about visible inside whilst the rear of the model has a centrally mounted hinged door panel which can also be opened. The two side compartments at the rear of the model do not have the ability to close due to model limitations and are glued in place.
The compartment behind the cab houses a small hose reel with simulated black hosing and trigger operated nozzle while the lower front and rear side compartments are empty on this version of the model.
