Oshkosh S-Series Front Discharge Mixer - Cemstone
Presented here is the 1:50th scale Oshkosh S-Series 7 axle front discharge concrete placement truck in the company livery of Cemstone concrete solutions. The model is from the second production run and has no noticable casting differences from the first run of the model.
The main driveshaft is visible from the engine to the transmission block where drive shafts then run to the front and rear drive axles. There are two types of tyre fitted to the model and each has an authentic tread pattern. The main drive wheels are larger in diameter and wider while the wheels fitted to the load span axles are small and narrow. The rear of the model has an intricate lifting load span axle with guards and light clusters fitted while the three main load span axles feature the ability to lock them in the raised position and each features functional steering and suspension. Air, electrical and hydraulic hose lines run along the length of the chassis.
The main drum is plastic and features cast access panel detail with the Cemstone company details printed on both sides of the freely rotating drum. The drum rotation hydraulic drive motor is mounted at the rear along with flexible hydraulic cables and the drum rides on two small roller wheels at the front of the vehicle.
Water hoses are fitted to the large 150 gallon water tank mounted behind the cab while twin air tanks are also visible beneath the drum. There are several realistically cast plastic water hoses, complete with spray nozzles on the model and the front frame has a hydraulically adjustable loading chute and access platform with handrails and photo etched mesh foot panels.
The chrome effect rear view mirrors are provided in the box and need fitting to both sides of the cab. These are loose fitting and flop about so a touch of glue may be needed to keep them in position. There are a host of accurately placed warning and instruction labels throughout the model with many located near the opening cab door.
The rear mounted engine is revealed under the sprung loaded opening plastic hood with all the engine components fully modelled. The chromed exhaust system, rear mounted radiator with flexible hoses and fine photo etched mesh grill are just some of the details found in the engine bay. The battery compartment and 70 gallon fuel tank are fitted to the chassis sides along with flexible rubber mud guards with printed Cemstone logos.
There are two additional extension chute sections which are stowed on the side of the vehicle and clip into place on the end of the fixed chute to extend the reach at which the material can be discharged. The power chute is able to rotate through 180 degrees with hydraulic cylinders that raise/lower the main section while a flexible simulated material membrane is fitted to the discharge ring, just like on the full sized machine.
The chute cylinders fitted to the discharge chute are the smallest I have seen on a model and yet they are fully functional. This is another testament to the amount of engineering detail that goes into each and every model from TWH. The single side opening cab door reveals the fully reproduced interior with air ride seat, steering wheel and drive controls, complete with photo etched access steps and handrails.
A six page full colour brochure is supplied with the model which gives pictures and details of the range of Oshkosh S-Series front discharge mixers. The model is well protected in a two piece polystyrene carton with outer cardboard box, printed with pictures of the S-Series range.
