Ariens 1960 "Sno-Thro" Self Propelled Snow Blower
Presented here is an exceptional 1:12th scale model of the Ariens 1960 "Sno Thro" self propelled snow blower. Ariens was formed in 1933 and in 1960, the famous Sno-Thro machine was released with 1865 units manufactured in the first year. In 2005, the 2 millionth Sno-Thro rolled off the production line and the model here has been commissioned to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Ariens company.
The rubber tyres have an authentic square pad tread pattern and are fitted to metal wheel hubs complete with simulated air inflation valves. The replicated Lauson 4.5 hp engine features a recoil engine starting mechanism which is fully reproduced on the model including plastic handle and pull cord.
The side mounted fuel tank and silver air intake are all present and the transmission cover can be removed to reveal the rubber belt and pulleys which connect the impellor to the engine drive. The chrome handles feature simulated rubber grips with sprung loaded throttle and linkage engaging controls while the direction control lever is mounted between the handles with a printed panel next to it clearly showing how to operate the machine.
The output chute is fitted to a rotating base which can actually be positioned through 180 degrees by turning the handle that connects to the toothed wheel through a fully functional universal joint. This level of functionality is seldom seen on a model and shows how authentic this miniature is to the original 1960 machine.
The auger head is fully rotating with central drive casing and edge bearing details visible on the model. The impellor fitted behind the auger is capable of rotating and is connected to the engine's output drive by a rubber belt which actually moves as the impellor is turned. This is another exceptional touch for such a small model.
The model is securely packaged in a two piece polystyrene box with cardboard outer box printed with information on the Ariens 1960 Sno-Thro machine. A colour booklet detailing the machine is also supplied along with a magnetic metal badge celebrating 75 years of the company (1933-2008)
